We proudly present to you the Serbian Association of Regional Anesthesia, which gathers experts in adult and pediatric anesthesia, as well as orthopedic surgery. The aim of SARA is to educate anesthesiologists and surgeons in the use of ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia, exchanging knowledge and experience, implementing novel techniques into everyday practice, and presenting new findings in the form of guidelines and through hands-on workshops.
Regional anesthesia encompasses neuraxial anesthesia and peripheral nerve blocks. Modern-day technology has enabled the use of ultrasound not only for performing peripheral nerve blocks but also for the development of new fascial plane blocks.
Peripheral nerve blocks enable certain surgical procedures to be performed under procedural sedation. Furthermore, the utilization of regional anesthesia decreases or even eliminates the intraoperative use of opioid analgesics, providing a haemodinamically stabile patient, and shortening the period of time spent on mechanical ventilation after major surgical procedures. Postoperative effects of regional anesthesia include patient comfort, a greater quality of analgesia, no postoperative nausea and vomiting, early oral intake of food and water and patient mobilization.
